Rules for the Cadets and
Hobby-Modified have been reformatted for 2012. 1 set of
rules will be used for the entire season. Standard, Stock,
Spec and Crate categories may compete at any event. Top
category and rules highlighted in yellow will only be permitted
at specified Speedmonster championship events!
Drivers
please remember! We do not recommend modifying your car to
another weight category because you believe the other category will
have an advantage. Our goal is to make all categories
equal. If we find one category is dominating, weight
and/or spoiler rules will be adjusted to re-equalize the
categories!
The 2012 rules create weight
categories where various motor types and equipment will be legal and
competitive to race. The idea is to allow the existing
competitors in the region to run their current equipment, and to
make the differences competitive by weight, spoiler and/or tire
differences. Some minimal changes were required to be made
from
the 2011 to the Standard, Stock, Spec and Crate categories to
align rules with other area tracks and to allow those cars to be
able to compete.
Please keep in mind that
these minor rule changes increase the population of cars that
are now legal to race, allowing the potential for better car
counts and the existence of the classes into the future.
The future of these classes has been in jeopardy at some race
tracks in recent years due to low car counts, and we want to
avoid that situation. The larger pool of legal cars has allowed us to schedule more championship events
during 2012 for these classes.
Weight rules
have been slightly reduced for 2012 for the Cadets and Hobby-Modifieds
in order to keep weight limits the same at championship events when the Top
category is allowed to compete. This will allow weekly
drivers to gain experience and knowledge from week to week in
setting the cars up at these weights.
With certain stock parts becoming more difficult to find, some
adjustments have been made to allow other replacement parts.
These changes were made keeping the longevity of the classes
into the future in mind. For example, aluminum body panels
will be permitted in Cadets and Hobby-Modifieids to give the race teams
the option for easier body repairs. The Cadets will be
permitted to take on a sleeker look, while the Hobby-Modifieds
are still required to have body panels with stock contours. With the last GM metric
frame being produced in 1987, a solution has been found to provide the Cadet class a new
source for frames into the future. The nearly identical
Johnson Chassis frame has been approved for competition in all
Cadet weight categories. This frame is of the same weight
and dimensions as the original OEM frame and will provide racers
a safe, economical alternative to searching junkyards for
equipment. Possibly in the future, this could also be a solution
for the Hobby class as the majority of the frames in competition
now are identical to this frame. Information on this frame may be found at
www.johnsonchassis.com.
The former Super Stock separate rules set has been combined into
the Cadet rules for 2012. Cars with rectangular tubing
frames will be legal in the Cadet class only on 8" tires.
These 8" tire cars will also be allowed to run a dry sump,
any cast iron, non-worked head and an
8" spoiler at all events.

and look foward to a great 2012 season!
