"The Ultimate" and "Challenger Super Championships" is Pennyslvania's
mammoth fall tradition! The event was launched at The Challenger
Raceway in 1995 as "Fall Fest." The event began as a
Semi-Late race and evolved into a major national Super Late Model event!
In 2007, "Fall Fest" was converted to "The
Ultimate" with many exciting event improvements including the return to
the Challenger format. With these changes the event
achieved a record crowd and car count. Billy Drake of Bloomington,
IL won in the closing laps from the 15th starting position on the grid.
"The Ultimate" in 2008 was the final race ever at the Challenger Raceway. After 18 seasons of operations,
the track owners retired with a very successful event. Jimmy Mars
of Menomonie, WI holds the honor of being the last Super Late Model
winner at Challenger, coming from 12th in the starting lineup.
In 2009, the race was combined with The Pittsburgher
at Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway and then was held at the Roaring Knob
Motorsports Complex in 2010. Using the Challenger format, both
events provided amazing racing. Bart Hartman of Zanesville,
OH won at PPMS after starting 20th and Jason Covert of York Haven, PA
won from 9th at Roaring Knob.
In 2011, "The Ultimate" moved to the Hesston Speedway.
Jamie Lathroum of Mechanicsville, MD made a late race charge and won the
race with just 8 to go after starting 7th on the grid. Tim Fuller
& Rick Eckert split wins in the 2012 edition in 2 thrilling features
with mutliple lead changes!
2013 will see a total of $15,055 on the line for
the Super Late Models with combined UFo and 3 State Flyer sanctioning.
With the mass facility improvements at Hesston and
the dedication of the promoter to create a star fall event, Hesston will
be able to generate an event as close as possible to what it was as
Challenger! "The Ultimate"
is back in full format at Hesston! |
